Simon Reed

Simon Reed was a film-production professional who had spent approximately fifteen years working in Hollywood before seeking a position with a smaller company. After the release of ‘’I Am Still Me’‘, he interviewed with Resonance Films for a role helping Julian Reyes manage production equipment.

Early Life and Background

Simon grew up in New York.

Education

At LaGuardia High School, Simon acted, sang, and danced in theater productions and helped prepare shows backstage. He continued doing theater at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where he majored in film production.

Career

Simon moved to California when he began working in Hollywood. Over approximately fifteen years, he worked primarily behind the scenes, with experience preparing sets and props as well as working with cameras, lighting, and equipment. He especially enjoyed filming and setting up lighting to make the footage look good and help the rest of the crew do their best work. Simon also appeared as an extra in some productions and continued traveling between California and New York. Tired of the demands and workplace frustrations he had encountered in Hollywood, he wanted a smaller film company where he could stay and, as he put it, “vibe with” the people. Resonance Films’ planned equipment position offered that change.

Simon interviewed with Julian and Kayla Rossi at Resonance Films in 2037. His account of a past equipment mistake and his subsequent apology helped Julian assess how Simon would handle another person’s camera.

Simon said he would intervene to stop equipment from falling, privately flag a setup that might make footage unusable, and ask before changing gear arranged by someone else. He also asked who could authorize a change if the director was unavailable. Those distinctions mattered to Julian, whose earlier experience with a field worker had made him wary of handing over equipment responsibility.

Personality

Simon was a genuinely happy person who loved life. His excitement was sincere rather than something he put on for others, and he had experienced losses of his own.

Physical Characteristics

Simon stood approximately six feet two or three inches tall, with a broad, muscular build. He had thick blond hair and blue eyes. When Jack Alvarez met him, Jack thought Simon was gorgeous, almost unfairly so, and was especially taken with his smile.

Tastes and Preferences

Simon enjoyed attending theater performances, bringing other people along, and listening to cast recordings.

Personal Life

By 2037, Simon lived with Cindy, a close friend and roommate, in an apartment in North Hollywood’s NoHo Arts District. Their friendship was platonic; Cindy called him “her gay best friend” and addressed him as “honey” and “babe.” Cindy was also LGBT and had a new girlfriend, Tanisha, who adored Simon.

Simon could talk at length about filming and lighting. Cindy knew when one of those accounts was coming and met his enthusiasm with fond exasperation, sometimes going about something else while he kept talking.
